Several uses of high-voltage cables

For high-voltage cables, we can mainly see the wires on the poles and the cables in the underground pipe network. We say that there are different types and situations of high-voltage cable laying methods such as buried type, pipeline type, tunnel type or overhead type. For different laying methods, there are certain requirements for the selection of high-voltage cables.

As a type of high-voltage cable, its purpose is to transmit power in the range of ten kilovolts to thirty-five kilovolts, and there are relatively many applications for trunk road transmission. The considerations for the selection of high-voltage cables are quite complex, because of its many types. As the cable itself, high-voltage cables can be divided into aluminum-core cables or copper-core cables according to their materials. For those areas with complex environmental conditions and special requirements, the use of copper-core cables is more important in terms of quality and safety. For reliability; for our construction, the cable model selection should refer to the surrounding environment of the work, the corresponding means of laying, the performance of electrical equipment, etc.

Buried

It refers to laying the high-voltage cable directly underground (according to different geological conditions, the depth is different, generally it should be greater than 0.7 meters). Buried laying has high requirements on the protection of the cable itself, suitable for the use of armored cables with an outer protective layer; for unstable geological conditions such as swamps and quicksands, steel wire armored cables are also available. (In fact, the armored cable we talked about is actually a bendable combination. Its characteristics are rigidity, internal materials, and conductors are different, and the metal sleeve has an insulation layer.)

Pipeline

Refers to laying high-voltage cables in prefabricated pipes. This laying method is easy to cause the cable to overheat, resulting in power loss and capacity reduction, so it is more suitable to use a plastic protective cable or bare armored cable.

Tunnel type

Refers to laying the high-voltage cable on the bridge or support in the cable tunnel. This laying method is mostly used in cities and has the characteristics of good heat dissipation and easy maintenance, but it has high requirements on the flame retardancy of the cable, and it is suitable to use bare armored cable or flame-retardant plastic protective sleeve cable.

Overhead

It refers to the connection and laying of high-voltage cables through a pole (electric pole). This laying method is suitable for areas with flat terrain and small undulations. However, this method makes the cable completely exposed to the outside space and is susceptible to the external environment and external forces. It is suitable for cables with outer layers or all-plastic cables.
